If you open the Netflix software on Mac-Book Pro (using HDCP2.2), you can watch 4K video smoothly by connecting an HD cable (HDCP-enabled) to an external monitor (HDCP-enabled) through the HD port of a Type-C adapter (HDCP-enabled)
If any of the nodes in the closed loop does not support HDCP function / HDCP version number does not match (HDCP 2.2 devices do not have backward compatibility to 1.4, but the vast majority of HD chips support 2.2 will also support version 1.3 and 1.4 separately)
Then the video window will indicate that the HDCP protocol is invalid - a black screen/unplayable. Sites known to mandate HDCP technology are Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, DAZN
